How pickup works
Pickup of your motorcycle is simple and stress-free with Wheels for Impact. Our professional team will arrange for a small flatbed or trailer, ensuring safe transport of your bike. You don’t need to worry about providing a key for loading. We utilize strap tie-downs at the frame to secure your motorcycle during transit. If you're unable to be present during the pickup, our coordinators will work with you to finalize the details, ensuring everything goes smoothly. Our goal is to make the donation process seamless, so you can focus on the positive impact your donation will make.
What drives donation value
Several factors influence the value of your donated motorcycle. For classic and vintage bikes, especially models like the Indian Chief or low-mileage Gold Wing, an appraisal may be necessary to determine fair market value—this will fulfill IRS Form 8283 Section B requirements. Generally, Harley-Davidson models maintain strong values, while Japanese cruisers tend to depreciate more slowly. Be mindful that sport bikes track condition closely; well-maintained bikes fetch better prices compared to those less cared for. Aftermarket parts can also sway value, either enhancing or detracting based on their quality and fit.
Documentation you need
- Title for the motorcycle
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) for off-road vehicles
- Service records (if available)
- Appraisal for classic motorcycles (especially for IRS filing)
Washington DC specifics
In Washington DC and Virginia, the DMV has specific guidelines for motorcycle donations. Generally, the title must be signed over to Wheels for Impact. For older models or custom bikes, obtaining an appraisal can further ensure a fair valuation during the donation process. In Virginia, you can also provide a bill of sale if the title is unavailable. Understanding these regulations ensures a smooth transition for your motorcycle into its new chapter, helping us maximize its impact.
